EU Commission Green Paper on VAT - why you must act now

Webcast Date: Friday 28 January 2011

Live time: 15:00pm GMT

Synopsis
Will businesses rise to the challenge and respond to the Green paper in advance of the deadline of 31 May 2011? What assurance do businesses have that the EU Commission will seriously take their views into account? How can businesses structure their responses in order to gain maximum impact and ensure that the future system is the one best adapted to their needs? Is harmonisation of VAT systems across the 27 countries of the European Union a realistic ambition for the EU Commission and is harmonisation a pre-requisite for a secure, stable and business friendly tax system?

In December, the EU Commission issued a Green paper COM(2010) 695 final “On the future of VAT - Towards a simpler, more robust and efficient VAT system” , inviting businesses to contribute their views. The Green paper offers a real opportunity for both root and branch modernisation of the EU VAT system, for the first time in 40 years, and to create a system adapted to business and Administrations’ needs in the 21st Century.

PwC’s EU VAT experts are hosting a live webcast on 28th January to give you an opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion with the panel around the Green paper. We will be interviewing Alex Wiedow (Director - Indirect Taxation and Tax Administration) of the Taxation and Customs Directorate of the European Commission, on his vision for VAT and the role he sees for the Green paper in achieving this vision. We’ll also be looking at the main issues covered by the Green paper and will be inviting participants to share their views and concerns.
